About PLD Space
PLD Space is an international company on a mission to transport satellites into space, vertically integrating the engineering, testing, manufacturing, and operations of its reusable and sustainable rockets. Headquartered in Elche (Spain) and founded in 2011 by Raúl Torres and Raúl Verdú, PLD Space has established itself as a global benchmark in the small satellite launch sector. Its family of MIURA launchers and LINCE crewed capsule position the company as a leader in European technological sovereignty for space transportation, covering the full spectrum of space missions.
PLD Space operates over 188,000 m² of facilities in Elche, Teruel (Spain), Kourou (French Guiana), and Duqm (Oman), enabling the company to provide comprehensive satellite and payload launch services into space.
Teamwork, courage, determination and ambition enable PLD Space to guarantee an autonomous, independent satellite space access capability, based on reliability at a globally competitive price. The company is able to offer best-in-class launch services to commercial satellite operators, institutions, space agencies and national and international governmental entities
Mission
The Avionics AIT Engineer is responsible for preparing, coordinating and executing avionics test and integration activities across different product levels, from PCBAs and subassemblies to system-level campaigns.
This role translates verification needs and test specifications into executable procedures, detailed test setups and controlled test operations. The Avionics AIT Engineer ensures that approved test procedures are executed safely, consistently and with the correct product configuration, recording all required data, deviations and observations during functional, qualification, acceptance and integration test activities.
The position requires a hands-on engineering profile with strong knowledge of electronics, avionics hardware, laboratory instrumentation, test setups and operational execution in a fast-paced development and recurrent production environment.
Responsibilities
- Review test specifications, verification needs and product documentation to define the operational approach for avionics test and integration activities.
- Contribute to the definition and maintenance of Avionics AIT Plans, including the integration and test sequence, required resources, configurations, dependencies and expected execution evidence.
- Prepare and maintain detailed test and integration procedures, ensuring they are executable, safe, repeatable and aligned with the intended verification or integration objective.
- Define and document the operational requirements for the test setup, including product configuration, harnessing needs, electrical interfaces, instrumentation, EGSE/SCOE usage, software tools, test sequence, safety constraints and consumables required for test execution and automation.
- Support test readiness activities and technical reviews, identifying open actions, setup risks, missing inputs, configuration issues or operational constraints before execution.
- Ensure that the product and test configuration are correctly identified, documented and controlled before, during and after test execution.
- Execute avionics tests and integration activities following approved procedures at PCBA, subassembly, unit, subsystem or system level.
- Operate avionics test infrastructure, including laboratory equipment, EGSE, SCOEs, test benches, data acquisition systems and automated test tools.
- Record and organize execution data, observations, deviations, anomalies, configuration changes and test evidence generated during functional, qualification, acceptance, environmental or integration activities.
- Perform an initial assessment of test execution and collected evidence, identifying missing data, deviations, setup issues or unexpected behaviors, and supporting troubleshooting, anomaly investigation and retest activities when required.
- Capture lessons learned and contribute to the improvement of AIT plans, procedures, setup instructions, evidence collection methods and recurrent execution practices.
Necessary Requirements
- Engineering degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering with electronics specialization, or similar.
- Strong hands-on background in the operation, validation and troubleshooting of electronic, electrical and electromechanical systems at different levels, from PCBAs and units to integrated system-level test environments.
- Good technical understanding of the electronic domains involved in avionics testing, including power electronics, analog and digital electronics, communication interfaces, sensors, actuators, instrumentation and, when applicable, RF-related equipment or avionics interfaces with feed, pressurization and propulsion systems.
- Experience preparing, reviewing or executing test procedures for electronic equipment.
- Good understanding of functional testing, electrical checkout, interface and communication checks and hardware debugging.
- Ability to read and understand technical documentation such as schematics, ICDs, wiring diagrams, test specifications, procedures, user manuals and configuration documents.
- Experience using laboratory instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, multimeters, signal generators, DAQs, logic analyzers or spectrum analyzers.
- Basic understanding of product configuration control, test configuration and as-tested configuration records.
- Ability to collect, organize and document test evidence in a clear, complete and traceable way.
- Troubleshooting mindset, with the ability to identify setup issues, unexpected behaviours, missing data or execution deviations during test activities.
- Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams including V&V, design, production, quality, test systems, facilities and integration teams.
- Strong communication, coordination and leadership skills in fast-paced technical environments.
- Language – fluent English and Spanish, written and spoken.
Desired Competencies
- Knowledge of ECSS, IPC, NASA, and MIL Standards.
- Previous experience in aerospace, launch vehicles, satellites, aircraft, defense, automotive, railway or other safety-critical industries.
- Experience with avionics integration, AIT campaigns or system-level test operations.
- Experience with EGSE, SCOEs, test benches, HIL, flatsat, ATB or other avionics test environments.
- Experience executing functional tests, acceptance tests, qualification tests, incoming checks or recurrent production tests.
- Knowledge of environmental test support activities such as vibration, shock, thermal cycling, TVAC, EMC or climatic testing.
- Familiarity with communication protocols used in embedded systems, such as CAN, RS-422, RS-485, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, UART or SpaceWire.
- Experience with automated test tools, scripting or test execution environments such as Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW or similar.
- Experience supporting anomaly investigation, NCRs, deviations, retests or failure review activities.
- Experience preparing or contributing to AIT plans, integration procedures, operational checklists or test execution records.
- Ability to work under operational pressure while maintaining discipline, safety, configuration control and execution quality.
- Continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to identify opportunities to simplify, standardize or automate recurrent test and integration activities.
