About PLD Space

PLD Space is an international company on a mission to transport satellites into space, vertically integrating the engineering, testing, manufacturing, and operations of its reusable and sustainable rockets. Headquartered in Elche (Spain) and founded in 2011 by Raúl Torres and Raúl Verdú, PLD Space has established itself as a global benchmark in the small satellite launch sector. Its family of MIURA launchers and LINCE crewed capsule position the company as a leader in European technological sovereignty for space transportation, covering the full spectrum of space missions.

PLD Space operates over 188,000 m² of facilities in Elche, Teruel (Spain), Kourou (French Guiana), and Duqm (Oman), enabling the company to provide comprehensive satellite and payload launch services into space.

Teamwork, courage, determination and ambition enable PLD Space to guarantee an autonomous, independent satellite space access capability, based on reliability at a globally competitive price. The company is able to offer best-in-class launch services to commercial satellite operators, institutions, space agencies and national and international governmental entities

Mission

The Avionics Test Facilities Engineer is responsible for ensuring that avionics test laboratories and environmental test facilities are available, properly configured, safe and ready to support verification, qualification, acceptance and system-level test campaigns.

The role combines test facility engineering and test operations, supporting the preparation, execution and monitoring of avionics test campaigns. The engineer acts as the technical interface between the test facility, AIT, V&V and test systems teams, ensuring that test articles can be safely integrated into the facility and that tests are executed under controlled and repeatable conditions.

The position is intended to develop an internal test laboratory capability, able not only to maintain the available infrastructure but also to prepare test configurations, operate test facilities and execute or supervise approved test procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the availability, readiness and proper configuration of test facilities and laboratories required for avionics test campaigns.
  • Coordinate and plan test facility activities across the different test campaigns, identifying the optimum test sequence and facility allocation to maximize availability, minimize conflicts and efficiently support programme priorities.
  • Prepare and configure the test environment, instrumentation and measurement systems required for test execution.
  • Operate and monitor environmental test facilities during qualification and acceptance campaigns according to approved test procedures and safety constraints.
  • Support the integration and setup of the test article, coordinating with AIT, V&V and Test Systems before and during test execution.
  • Maintain the operational capability, configuration and measurement traceability of test facilities and instrumentation.
  • Support test readiness, troubleshooting and anomaly resolution related to facilities, instrumentation and the test environment.
  • Contributes to the continuous improvement and development of the internal environmental test laboratory capability, identifying infrastructure upgrades and future testing needs.

Necessary Requirements

  • Degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Electronic, Industrial, Telecommunications Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Good understanding of test laboratory operations, instrumentation and measurement systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical test setups, including power distribution, grounding, harness, sensors and data acquisition.
  • Ability to understand and work with test procedures, electrical schematics, ICDs and test configurations.
  • Hands-on approach to the preparation, operation and troubleshooting of complex test setups.
  • Ability to work autonomously during test execution and react methodically to anomalies or unexpected facility conditions.
  • Good communication and coordination skills to work with multidisciplinary engineering and test teams.

Desired Competencies

  • Knowledge of ECSS, IPC, NASA, and MIL Standards.
  • Experience with environmental testing of aerospace or similar high-reliability hardware, particularly thermal, thermal-vacuum, humidity, EMI/EMC, salt fog, shock and vibration testing.
  • Familiarity with EGSE, laboratory instrumentation, DAQ systems and avionics test environments.
  • Knowledge of calibration, metrology and measurement traceability.
  • Experience supporting Test Readiness Reviews, qualification or acceptance campaigns.
  • Knowledge of ECSS verification, testing, quality and safety practices, particularly those applicable to space test centres.
  • Experience with configuration control, test documentation and anomaly management.
  • Practical mindset, strong troubleshooting capability and willingness to participate directly in test campaign preparation and execution.
  • Proven track record solving complex problems with minimal supervision and on a tight schedule.
  • Experience in working in clean room and EPA (Electrostatic Protection Area) environments.
