About PLD Space

PLD Space is an international space services company with in-house engineering and manufacturing. It is dedicated to transporting satellites and humans into space, vertically integrating engineering, testing, manufacturing and operations of its reusable and sustainable rockets. Headquartered in Elche (Spain) and founded in 2011 by Raúl Torres and Raúl Verdú, PLD Space has established itself as a global benchmark in the space launcher sector. Its MIURA family of launchers and its LINCE manned capsule position the company as a leader in European technological sovereignty in space transportation, covering the full range of space missions.

With a team of more than 450 employees and 350 million in total funding, PLD Space also has the largest private test benches in Europe, located in Teruel (Spain), and operates one launch base in the Guiana Space Centre (CSG), in Kourou (French Guiana). In total, it has more than 188,000m2 of own industrial infrastructures.

Teamwork, courage, determination and ambition enable PLD Space to guarantee an autonomous, independent satellite space access capability, based on reliability at a globally competitive price. The company is able to offer best-in-class launch services to commercial satellite operators, institutions, space agencies and national and international governmental entities.

Additionally, you will be actively involved in the equipment and tooling request, design and sourcing. Also you will act as a QA role for the NDT executions. Finally you will perform post-processing of NDT data.

Responsibilities

·       Create work methodologies and procedures or improve the existing ones in order to benefit current and future projects.

·        NDT feasibility studies.

·       Assessment of inspection requirements, conditions and outcomes.

·       Qualification of NDT methods and equipment.

·       Internal NDT QA (records, verifications, calibrations…).

·       Collaborate in the design of inspection equipment and tooling.

·       Collaborate in the sourcing of equipment, tooling and accessories.

·       Inspections planning.

·       Assistance in post-processing of test data.

·       Assessment of externally executed inspections.

·       Research state of the art in inspection methodologies and propose creative approaches to complex problems.

·       Occasionally travel to other PLD Space or supplier locations.

Necessary Requirements

·       Materials, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineer or other related disciplines (e.g. Physics).

·       Fluency in English is mandatory.

·       Fluency in digital review and processing of NDT data is mandatory.

·       Deep knowledge of main NDT methods (visual, dye penetrant, radiography, ultrasound).

·       Good knowledge of materials (steels, nickel alloys, copper alloys, aluminum alloys, FRP…), manufacturing techniques (rolling, forging, casting, additive…) and their associated defects.

·       Used to work with standards (ECSS, ISO, EN, ASTM, ASME, MIL).

Desired Requirements

·       Knowledge of additional NDT methods (eddy currents, PAUT, TFM, CT, CL)

·       Knowledge of NDT requirements of specific codes or standard frameworks (BPVC, ISO 17635, AWS D17.1, etc.).

·       Knowledge of NDT personnel qualification standards (ISO 9712, EN 4179, etc.)

·       Basic skills in electronics will be welcomed.

·       Basic knowledge of CAD shall be welcomed.
