About PLD Space

PLD Space is an international space services company with in-house engineering and manufacturing. It is dedicated to transporting satellites and humans into space, vertically integrating engineering, testing, manufacturing and operations of its reusable and sustainable rockets. Headquartered in Elche (Spain) and founded in 2011 by Raúl Torres and Raúl Verdú, PLD Space has established itself as a global benchmark in the space launcher sector. Its MIURA family of launchers and its LINCE manned capsule position the company as a leader in European technological sovereignty in space transportation, covering the full range of space missions.

With a team of more than 450 employees and 350 million in total funding, PLD Space also has the largest private test benches in Europe, located in Teruel (Spain), and operates one launch base in the Guiana Space Centre (CSG), in Kourou (French Guiana). In total, it has more than 188,000m2 of own industrial infrastructures.

Teamwork, courage, determination and ambition enable PLD Space to guarantee an autonomous, independent satellite space access capability, based on reliability at a globally competitive price. The company is able to offer best-in-class launch services to commercial satellite operators, institutions, space agencies and national and international governmental entities.

Mission

The Avionics Production Engineer is responsible for defining, optimizing, and controlling manufacturing processes for avionics systems and components. This role ensures that production workflows meet design intent, manufacturability requirements, quality standards, and safety regulations. The engineer works closely with cross-functional teams to optimize production processes, troubleshoot issues, and ensure that avionics products meet the required specifications for performance and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that avionics systems and components are produced according to design specifications, manufacturability requirements, and applicable aerospace quality standards.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to develop and implement efficient, robust, and compliant production processes for the assembly and integration of avionics systems.
  • Integrate Lean Manufacturing principles and Continuous Improvement methodologies as a fundamental part of process development, ensuring optimized efficiency, quality, and waste reduction.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols, risk‑mitigation practices, and regulatory requirements across all manufacturing processes.
  • Lead the creation and maintenance of production documentation, including work instructions, process flows, and quality control procedures, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Optimize production processes by identifying improvement opportunities and implementing solutions to enhance efficiency, reduce variation, and improve product quality.
  • Define and maintain the product traceability system, ensuring accurate tracking of components, materials, processes, and documentation throughout the manufacturing lifecycle.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues related to avionics hardware and systems integration, coordinating with cross‑functional teams as needed.
  • Collaborate with the quality assurance team to ensure that avionics products meet required performance standards, certification criteria, and internal quality controls.
  • Conduct inspections and tests to verify the functionality, quality, and safety of avionics components, ensuring compliance with standards such as DO‑160, MIL‑STD‑810, and AS9100.
  • Participate in design reviews and support prototype and first‑run unit development, contributing to Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design to Cost (DTC) activities.

Necessary Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in avionics production or manufacturing engineering, preferably in the aerospace industry.
  • Strong knowledge of avionics systems, components, and their integration into aerospace platforms.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes, assembly, and testing of avionics hardware.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations, such as DO-160, MIL-STD-810, AS9100, IPC-A-610.
  • Proficiency in CAD and CAM tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD), and simulation software.
  • Knowledge of quality control techniques, including inspection, testing, and failure analysis.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues in a production environment.
  • Experience with process improvement methodologies, such as Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining attention to detail and quality standards.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in technical English.

Desired Requirements

  • Manufacturing Expertise: Strong understanding of avionics systems production processes, from assembly to quality control.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to identify and resolve production challenges efficiently.
  • Process Optimization: Focus on improving production efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, quality assurance.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensuring that all avionics components and systems meet high-quality standards and specifications.
  • Safety and Compliance: Commitment to safety protocols and industry regulations during all stages of production.
